Womennovator Prachi strongly believes in empowerment. She is a young Social Engineer, who has spent 10 years in community services and mainstreamed thousands of underprivileged people (sex workers, prisoners, disable, destitute and children etc.). She has proven track record of working with Governmental & Non-Governmental Organization in the capacity of Senior R & D consultant. She is leading a Social Enterprise named VYOMINI which is working on “Green Menstruation”. Her vision for VYOMINI Social Enterprise is the manufacturing of low-cost biodegradable and high-quality sanitary pads for all menstruating women; this initiative is based on the theme “Women First Prosperity for All”. As we all know Menstrual Health in India has been non-existent, to say the least, partially due to the complete ignorance of policymakers and the rest due to the social taboo existing around the biological process. It is a pity, that there are such limited stakeholders in the country, even willing to work towards uplifting the hygiene standards available to women, given the pitiable mortality rates caused by the lack of it. Amidst such bleak circumstances, Prachi Kaushik shines like a beacon of hope. Her move helped over 100 NGOs and individually benefited over 2 lakh women in Delhi and NCR. She has organized more than 1000 workshops. She says, “Women shared their inability to afford even a 20 rupee sanitary pad, despite the understanding importance of Menstrual Hygiene; and even if they could afford one, it wasn’t enough to change enough times to avoid uterine infections”. She is working in 10 states of India. She has trained, motivated and set up sanitary pads manufacturing unit and targeted to provide employment to 1 lakh women in 2018.
