"Hi, I am Gargi Gaur, a sustainable fashion designer and founder of Gargi Gaur Label. As a kid I was always a big lover of fashion and that ended up with me working with biggest designers of India. My journey began when I started analysing how fashion industry worked, unpaid labours, unethical practices and a huge quantity of waste being generated and sent to landfills. Everything made me question the worth of fashion.
I quit my dream job and started learning about sustainable fashion, to my surprise it was an alien concept in India and only a few were preaching it. I also learned so much about climate change, zero waste living and how everything we did wrong was harming the environment drastically.
So I decided to start with a clothing brand which could actually put all the scraps and waste fabrics and raw materials into use. I source fabrics from export houses, manufacturing houses, garment stores etc and only pick what's waste for them.
I received so much love and acceptance for my first collection of sarees which were made from rejected denim.
I have always been transparent about the brand, how we function, and I follow zero waste and no plastic policies very dedicatedly. I also do campaigns where we upcyle clothes directly from client wardrobes, and take workshops regarding sustainable lifestyle.
My aim is to have a sustainable wardrobe at every home so that needs of humans as well as environment are met at the same time."
